About

My name is Gerd Siekmann. I'm a collector, and my website popdom.de has been online since 1998. From 1998 to 2005, I ran POPDOM in Cologne (my private museum for design and everyday culture of the 1960s and 70s). After a long hiatus, I relaunched the website in 2020, now as a sales portal for German concert posters from 1950 to the present day.

Besides international rock, punk, and pop stars, the German music scene is one of my main focuses, especially the so-called "Krautrock" bands, which is related to my own pop music upbringing. I saw my first rock concert in 1972, at the age of 13. It was the Berlin band "Birth Control" at the Unna-Massen youth center; the entrance fee was 5 DM. Naturally, German acts were cheaper than the international stars who had traveled a long way. For this reason alone, I frequently had the opportunity to see these acts perform as a schoolboy. Many of them toured the entire country back then, often playing even in small towns, usually in small halls, schools, or youth centers. Many bands, often role models for current musicians and now revered as cult bands by music enthusiasts, released only a few records, and only some of them managed to tour internationally.

While the term "Krautrock" was initially used as a pejorative abroad, it soon evolved into a trademark for a particular spirit of experimentation and creativity. In recent years, countless books about Krautrock have been published in various languages, and original vintage Krautrock records are passionately sought after by vinyl collectors worldwide, often fetching sensational prices.
