About the IVPDA

The International Vintage Poster Dealers Association (IVPDA), a non-profit association, was founded in 1996 by a group of highly respected poster dealers from around the world. The Association was created to inform and educate the public, collectors and other buyers and to help promote the appreciation of the wide variety of vintage posters from around the globe. The Association members have strict guidelines to ensure the authenticity of the posters they offer for sale and to promote ethical and fair business practices. Our members have many years of professional experience and are respected throughout the arts community for their knowledge and integrity.

IVPDA Policy & Ethics Statement

The International Vintage Poster Dealers Association (IVPDA) is an organization of knowledgeable professionals with the highest business ethics. Membership in the Association requires that the member have at least 5 years experience buying & selling posters, insuring that our Members are aware of all developments in our industry and are knowledgeable about this art field. Membership also requires that the member have a good reputation for honesty, and that they maintain the highest ethical standards, expertise, and professional integrity in dealing with the public, museums, and other dealers.

Additionally, the Poster Authentication Committee of the IVPDA continuously investigates any suspected fake posters, using both the irreplaceable knowledge of our members and the latest scientific technology to date paper and inks. All members are continually updated on any findings or suspicions of the Poster Authentication Committee. In this way, the Association keeps our members informed of all developments in our industry.

Any Member who does not maintain these standards is expelled from the Association.

IVPDA Membership

Membership is open to dealers, businesses or individuals that deal in original vintage posters and have a good reputation for honesty, maintaining high ethical standards, expertise and professional integrity in dealings with the public, museums and other dealers. Applications to join the Association under one of the following categories may be made with the sponsorship of two current IVPDA members: 

Full Members 

An individual dealer or business entity that has been buying or selling original vintage posters for at least five years from a physical location or a website where posters may be shown and the dealer may be contacted, that is established and contributes to the cultural life of the community and participates in shows and exhibitions. 

Provisional Members

An individual dealer or business entity that has been buying or selling original vintage posters for at least two years from a physical location or a website where posters may be shown and the dealer may be contacted, that is knowledgeable about the range and variety of vintage posters as well as all other aspects associated with the buying and selling of vintage posters. Provisional members may upgrade to full membership within three years. 

Affiliate Members 

An individual dealer or business entity that is closely associated with the sale of original vintage posters (but does not operate a retail business selling posters), the exhibition of, or authorship and/or production of scholarly literature specific to the field of vintage posters.
