Why are we so fascinated with cats? Is it their quirky nature, their soft fur, or the mysterious look in their eyes? From independent street cats and purring house cats as artist's muses, to the companion robot that stays on your lap without resisting. The exhibition When the Cat is Away focuses on the unique connection between lithography and the cat.
In this spectacular exhibition, the Dutch Museum of Lithography shows how artists over the past 300 years have depicted the cat in a variety of ways. For example, they try to capture the essence on the cat with expressive color contrasts or a focus on its piercing eyes. Yet, not everyone can handle the quirky and free nature of the cat and we have always continued to look for ways to get a better grip on this. Thanks to micrographic chip technology and GPS trackers, we can now track our cats indoors. Whether you are a cat person or just love great stories: this exhibition is highly recommended!
The exhibition was created with cooperation with many partners such as the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Kunstmuseum Den Haag, art dealer Simonis Buunk and various private lenders.
