Whether you are a jet setter or an arm chair traveler, the world of 2024 is all too familiar and easy to reach. That was not always the case. Until the middle of the last century the majority of people had never traveled outside their own country let alone visited anywhere else in the entire world. It was left to books and the imagination but with the advent of the jet engine and cruise ships, far off places beckoned and nothing made it seem more fascinating and exotic than the purest form of advertising, the poster. The poster made the unknown familiar and made the known somehow mysterious and new. Travel posters made us yearn for new destinations to explore and yearn for the places we had visited long ago. The great poster designers from the beginning were proficient in creating exciting new worlds to see and truly made the world a smaller place. Whether looking at a travel poster from the 19th century or one from the 21st, we are still captivated by all the wonders the world has to show us.
